Well...it will always be the Citrus Bowl to me anyhow.

Mike Leach says Texas is #5

Urban Meyer says Texas is #4.....and Georgia is #21...the worst ranking by any coach of the Dawgs (tied with Pat Hill).

As we projected in the Big 10 Rankings last week, Oklahoma gets into the Big 12 Championship game based on the BCS poll....despite having the same record as Texas and after losing to Texas head to head.

IF Florida HAS to win the SEC...here is the scenario that has little chance of happening that we would all like to see:

The Gators Get Left Out of BCS Championship / Miracle BCS Scenario

1. Oklahoma will beat Missouri and will take the #1 spot in the BCS, giving them the invite to the National Championship Game.

2. Florida beats Bama in a close one on a controversial Penn Wagers special.

3. The coaches poll moves everyone up after the Bama loss. Oklahoma to 1, Texas to 2, Florida to 3 because they feel bad for Texas and due to the aforementioned Penn Wagers special perpetrated on Bama.

4. Florida, who is currently 6th in the computer polls, jumps only Utah, Bama and Texas Tech because of the strength of schedule hit due to LSU, Georgia and South Carolina all losing.

5. Harris Poll can stay the same.... Oklahoma 1,
Florida 2, and Texas 3 with the Bama loss.

6. Florida is left out and we have a rematch of Texas vs Oklahoma in the National Championship Game.

The BCS is once again shown to be terrible, and Florida gets left out, partially because we took one for the team and lost to the nerds. This is all I want for Christmas.

Yahoo! Sports agrees that this could happen here:

"
There is at least three positions difference between the Horns and Gators in every computer poll except Richard Billingsley's. So how much is beating Alabama -- which, again, comes into the game ranked behind Texas and Oklahoma in the computer average -- worth? ... But will it be worth enough in the computer polls (I'm thinking at least two positions per computer) to close that very wide gap with Texas? That's a shaky guess."

And even the BCSGuru says it is possible....

NERDS!

Motivational:

Truth is funnier than fiction:

Controversy is brewing in the Big12. If Oklahoma wins this weekend vs Oklahoma State, they could jump Texas in the BCS. That would send Oklahoma, who lost to Texas, onto the Big12 Championship and National Championship.

If the regular season is really a playoff...as some ESPN analysts like to say, then the Texas head to head win over Oklahoma should put Texas in the Big 12 and National Championship, correct?

1. Alabama
(last poll: 1)

Bama is in the SEC Championship game. A shot at the National Championship is in reach.

2. Texas
(last poll: 3 )

Texas is the highest ranked 1 loss team. They will beat Texas A&M this weekend. They will drop behind Oklahoma in the BCS, who they beat...and get shut out of everything. Just watch.

3. Oklahoma

(last poll: 4 )

Will Oklahoma still get to go to the Big 12 Championship despite having the same record as Texas...and losing to Texas? If they have a three way tie...the highest BCS ranked team goes. So much for the head to head loss vs Texas.

4.
Florida
(last poll: 5 )

With a win over FSU and Bama, Florida moves into the drivers seat for a second BCS national championship in 3 years. Whoops...sorry, I just barfed on my keyboard.

5. Utah

(last poll: 6 )

The rival game against BYU in will determine if Utah gets a BCS bowl bid.

6. Texas Tech
(last poll: 2 )

FAIL.

7.
Southern California
(last poll: 7 )

4 one loss teams ahead of USC at this point. The loss to Oregon State is the worse of any BCS conference school one-loss team...and SoCal does not play a conference championship game to help make up for it. Yet, Pete Carroll is still confused. Note to SoCal. Add two teams to the Pac-10 and play a conference championship game instead of taking 3 bye weeks while the big boys like Bama and Florida put it all on the line one more time.

8. Boise State

(last poll: 8 )

Undefeated and with the only challenge left being Fresno State at home. Boise has proven themselves as a team that can compete in the BCS with a win over Oklahoma a few years back, yet, a two loss Ohio State team will get the BCS bowl invite over them.

I would be pretty upset if I was a Boise Bronco.

9. Penn State
(last poll: 9 )

Hint to big 10...play a championship game and Penn State may have been able to get back into the race after one loss.

10. Georgia
(last poll: 10)

Can the Dawgs make it 8 in a row over the nerds?

11. Ohio State
(last poll: 11)

Jesse "short tie" Palmer and ESPN are pimping Ohio State for an at large BCS spot vs the SEC #2. Personally, I hope the Dawgs get them in the Citrus...which will happen if the Oregon State Beavers can beat the Oregon Ducks.

4-2 the last two weeks ATS. Looking good.

Ole Miss + 4 @ LSU

Nutt beat LSU late in the season last year and LSU ended up being national champs. This LSU team is no where close to that level. Ole Miss wins straight up. 4 free points.

___________________________

Utah -6 vs BYU

Comparing the game Utah has vs TCU and the game BYU had against TCU is an indication that Utah should win this by 9 +. We will see.

___________________________

FSU +1 @ Maryland

If FSU can stay away from the turnovers, the should win this straight up.

BCS Bowl Projections

Posted by Dawgs Gone Blog | 11/19/2008 | | 0 comments »

Our pal Phil Steele gives his bowl projections here:

Here is how we see it:

Rose: Penn State (Big 10) vs SoCal (Pac-10)

Orange: Miami (ACC) vs Ohio St (or Boise) (at-large)

Sugar: Bama (at-large) vs Cincinnati(Big-east)

Fiesta: Oklahoma (at-large) vs Utah (non-bcs-at-large)

BCSCG: Florida (SEC) vs Texas (Big 12)

This is contingent on Oklahoma beating TT Saturday. If Oregon State wins out, they go to the Rose, Southern Cal goes elsewhere and Ohio State (Boise) gets dropped.

So what about the Dawgs?
-They are a near lock for the Capital One Bowl.

-If Penn State beats Michigan State this weekend, Michigan State would be the likely opponent.

-If Michigan State beats Penn State...the Dawgs could play Penn State or Ohio State depending on what Oregon State does (unless a BCS bowl would dare take a 2 loss Penn State team over a 2 loss Michigan State team that just beat Penn State).....got that?

What would a playoff look like under these bowl projections? It could look like this....

1st round

1 Texas vs 8 Cincy
2 Florida vs 7 Miami
3 Oklahoma vs 6 Utah
4 SoCal vs 5 Bama

2nd round

1 Texas vs 4 SoCal
2 Florida vs 3 Oklahoma

Championship:
4 SoCal vs 2 Florida

Well, it looks like it will come down to the SEC Champion and Big 12 Champion for the BCS National Championship. Two big time conferences with championship games sending a team to play for it all.

1. Alabama
(last poll: 1)

Bama is in the SEC Championship game. A shot at the National Championship is in reach.

2. Texas Tech

(last poll: 2 )

TT will play the biggest game in school history at Oklahoma. The nation will be watching.

3. Texas
(last poll: 3 )

Texas is the highest ranked 1 loss team.

4. Oklahoma

(last poll: 4 )

Will Oklahoma go 11-1 and get shut out of playing in the Big 12 Championship?

5.
Florida
(last poll: 5 )

With a win over FSU and Bama, Florida moves into the drivers seat for a second BCS national championship in 3 years. Whoops...sorry, I just barfed on my keyboard.

6. Utah

(last poll: 6 )

The rival game against BYU in will determine if Utah gets a BCS bowl bid.

7.
Southern California
(last poll: 7 )

3 one loss teams ahead of USC at this point. The loss to Oregon State is by far the worse of any BCS conference school one-loss team...and SoCal does not play a conference championship game to help make up for it.

Another BCS game for Boise looms if Utah falters.

9. Penn State
(last poll: 9 )

Hint to big 10...play a championship game and Penn State may have been able to get back into the race after one loss.

10. Georgia
(last poll: 10)

Another road SEC win for the Dawgs. Can the Dawgs make it 8 in a row over the nerds in two weeks?

11. Ohio State
(last poll: 11)

Only Michigan is left for tsou. Jesse "short tie" Palmer and ESPN are pimping Ohio State for an at large Sugar Bowl spot vs the SEC #2. Personally, I hope the Dawgs get them in the Citrus.

Georgia 17 / Auburn 13

Posted by Dawgs Gone Blog | 11/16/2008 | | 1 comments »

Click on pics to enlarge....

Stafford to Green on a game winning catch in the 4th quarter for a second week in a row. If anything, the '08 Dawgs keep things interesting / exciting. These 3 wins in a row over Auburn equal the longest win streak we have had over the Tigers since 80-82 (the Walker years).

DawgChat Poster, BoDontKnowHerschel added this statistical insight:

Green has 51 catches for 887 yards to this point...needs 118 vs GT to break the all-time UGA single season record for yardage. Game winning TD's in last two games vs UK and AU and a long TD that was a back breaker vs LSU...should be first team all-SEC for sure.

Green's total yards already rank him 4th all-time behind Hines Ward(900 yards in 1996), Brice Hunter(970 yards in 1993) and Terrence Edwards(1004 yards in 2002). Green passed Andre Hastings(860 yards in 1992) and Reggie Brown(860 yards in 2004) during the AU game.

Stafford has 2802 passing yards so he needs 198 vs GT for 3000. His current passing yardage ranks #5 all time for a season behind only Eric Zeier in 1993(3525 yards), Zeier in 1994(3396 yards), David Greene in 2003 (3307 yards) and Greene in 2002 (2924 yards).. During the AU game, Stafford surpassed Quincy Carter(2713 in 1999), Mike Bobo(2751 in 1997) and David Greene's 2001 season(2789 yards).

Moreno currently has 1244 rushing and 255 yards receiving so one yard from 1500 in total offense. His rushing total is 90 yards less than his total last year of 1334 and currently ranks 8th for a single season in UGA history. Knowshon passed Tim Worley(1216 yards in 1988) during the AU game.

The top 7 single season rushing totals in UGA history:

Herschel(1981) - 1891 yards
Herschel(1982) - 1752 yards
Herschel(1980) - 1616 yards
Garrison Hearst(1992) - 1594 yards
Moreno(2007) - 1334 yards
Musa Smith(2002) - 1324 yards
Willie McClendon(1978) - 1312 yards

KM 2008 -1244 and counting
